Moving into a new neighbourhood could be oftentimes awkward and uncomfortable. Here are the do's and don'ts that can help you adapt to a new neighbourhood you are about to live in:
Do's
* Introduce yourself, including your spouse and children, to the neighbours near you. This is a proper etiquette to let them feel that you are a friendly and approachable homeowner to the neighbourhood.
* Deliver your name, address and phone number to your new neighbours. At the same time ask them for a list of emergency numbers for your future convenience.
* Offer a nod and say "Hello" when you pass the houses in the neighbourhood. If you are in a hurry or don't have the time to talk, wave at them to show your friendliness.
* Ask your neighbours who they would recommend for repairs and remodelling plans for your new house.
* Listen to the neighbours when they offer a chat with you. Learn from them. You could gather new knowledge and wisdom when you are attentive to what they have to say, people with different cultural backgrounds.
Don'ts
* Be indifferent; exhibiting arrogance just to show your high level of status in the society.
* Walking your dog pass the neighbours without saying "Hello."
* Playing music that is too loud and annoying to the neighbours.
* Be inaccessible to the community by not sharing your phone numbers.
* Being aloof. Not participating in community activities, and refusing party invitations from the neighbours.
By pondering these dos and don'ts, you can easily adapt to the new neighbourhood you will live in.
