Published on Saturday, 13 August 2011

With several rooms in the house to pack your things for, making notifications about your change of address and taking care of dozens of other details, it seems as if any move is bound to be a disastrous experience. But in order for you to make the transition as smooth as possible, you can actually take things one step at a time. How about taking care of the packing supplies first, starting with the removal boxes?
Maximizing the Use of Removal Boxes
Unlike typical cardboard boxes, removal boxes are made of sterner stuff. You do need to carry a lot of things inside one box when you move, so the bottom needs to be secure and the sides need to be able to load all that weight. Depending on what you will put inside, there are different types of removal boxes that you can buy. Here are a few tips on how to maximize their use:
? Plan what you will put in each removal box. There are ones which are specifically designed to carry clothes, fragile items, etc

? Mark the contents of each box clearly, indicate which room they are for.
? Keep the weight of each box under 30 pounds - anything heavier than that may cause the carrier of the box to become injured or for the items inside to fall out.
? Layer the contents of the box so that you can protect the items in the middle.
? When packing plates, wrap them individually and place them on the box vertically. Stack them together in the box until full, then cushion the sides, top and bottom using a towel or blanket.
All in all, the rule of thumb to follow when packing is to fit everything neatly in boxes as long as they fit, making it easier for the movers to carry all your things in the truck.
