When it is time to move out of your old apartment, you should know your responsibilities as a tenant. If everything is taken care of, you can avoid conflicts with your landlord. So, before you bid you old unit goodbye, here are some tips to ensure a smooth move. Cleaning 1. Make sure you have all the cleaning materials and products that you need. 2. Use cleaning products that are safe for the surface you are working on. 3. Call an army of friends or family to help you out. In exchange, invite them for a free meal at your new place. 4. Make the cleaning task entertaining by bringing a radio. 5. If possible, clean your apartment after all your items are moved out. 6. Start cleaning in the room farthest from the door, working your way towards the door. This will keep you from cleaning yourself in the corner. 7. Make sure you arrange a carpet cleaning service. Do necessary repairs and repaints 1. Generally, apartment complexes require that walls be painted after you move out. Check with your apartment complex if this applies to your case as well. 2. Don't try to patch the holes in the carpet and flooring on your own. Hire a professional to do the repairs than possible making the problem worse. Keep/ Acquire Documents 1. Request a list from your landlord stating what the estimated costs are for repairing some particular items. Use this as a guide on how you are going to clean your apartment. 2. Keep all documents and records associated with your stay including the copy of all agreements regarding the rent, lease or damages.
